Architectural Lighting Designer
We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic lighting designer experienced in project management to lead design projects. You will use your skills to establish design criteria, lighting concepts, and lead a team of skilled designers and support staff from planning through construction on large-scale cutting-edge facilities. Our continued growth offers a number of creative outlets for the right individual including design, leadership, marketing, and mentoring opportunities. Successful candidate will have a minimum of 5-6 years experience with 2 years project management experience with lighting design firm; degree/experience in architecture, theater, interiors, or architectural engineering. IALD membership and LC certification is preferred. Other requirements include: excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work on multiple projects and manage workload to meet project deadlines; Auto-CAD, 3-D modeling, lighting visualization software (LightscapeTM, AGITM, and VIZ.), knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

CAD Technician
CAD Technicians use CAD drafting techniques to convert system design sketches, edited (redlined) drawings and standard detail drawings into specific layouts by utilizing CAD drafting resources to produce project drawings. A degree in Architectural, Mechanical or Civil Technology, knowledge of AutoCAD 2005, and experience in mechanical or electrical building systems can earn you this opportunity. Successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills and an above average ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines. You will have a great opportunity to move into a Designer role as you gain experience on projects and work in our mentoring environment.
Commissioning Rep
As a Commissioning Representative you will have the opportunity to carry out, develop or coordinate system test procedures, organize user-training sessions and administer functional performance tests. You will also have the opportunity to carry out activities related to project construction and contract administration including field observations; punch list preparation; performing checks of shop drawings; and reporting change order and pay requests.
Ideal candidates will have 8 to 10 years experience in construction management, commissioning, facilities management, mechanical contracting or MEP coordination. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must; above-average ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines required. Approx 50% travel required.
Electrical Designers
You will have the opportunity to coordinate and implement the layout of distribution systems and equipment, design equipment room layouts, size and select major system components, and perform field surveys.
Qualifications include 4+ years experience in electrical design and a fundamental knowledge of building systems for a variety of high-tech facilities. Other attributes important to us include strong communication and interpersonal skills, independent judgment, responsiveness, ability to work well in a deadline driven environment, enthusiasm and energy for project work, ability to follow direction, and to collaborate with, train, and lead team members. Proficiency in AutoCAD required. Associates degree desired.
Electrical Project Engineer
We are looking for a degreed engineer with 10-20 years experience in the design of power and lighting systems for healthcare and/or laboratory facilities and specification in a consulting environment. As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will meet with clients to learn user needs, collaborate with architects, develop engineering concepts and recommendations, and train and mentor engineers and designers. In addition, we are looking for individuals to help advance our practice by developing industry recognition through publications, seminar presentations, and client interface. Candidates must have the ability to collaborate with, train, and lead team members. Some travel required. Qualifications include BSAE/EE, strong communication and interpersonal skills and an above average ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines. Professional registration or ability to become registered required.
Entry-Level Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing)
As an entry-engineer at AEI, your work experience will develop in the following way: Within our team framework, you will initially work with and be mentored by experienced engineers and will yourself help to mentor CAD technicians and designers. Your initial assignments will include performing load calculations,determining system sizing and layouts, calculating equipment sizes, selecting equipment, completing field surveys, and preparing shop drawings. As you gain project experience, you will take on a greater role in writing specifications, participating in project meetings with clients and other consultants, and supporting construction-phase work. Fire Protection Engineer
As a Fire Protection Engineer you will have the opportunity to design fire protection systems for remodeling and new construction. You will be responsible for design, specifications and drawing review of the fire protection contractor’s automatic sprinkler, carbon dioxide and clean agent suppression systems. AEI’s drawings are performance-based layouts that are to be used by fire protection contractors for the creation of installation drawings. AEI’s performance-based drawings require coordination with clients, architects, civil engineering consultants, code officials and in-house mechanical, electrical/piping/information technology engineers and designers.
Fire protection system installation experience is beneficial but not required. Candidates should have working knowledge of NFPA regulations, hydraulic calculations, pump sizing and systems applications and a BSAE, BSME or BSFP. Registration or ability to become registered preferred.

Mechanical Infrastructure Project Engineer
We are currently growing our Infrastructure practice in our Madison office. We are looking for a Project Engineer with 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in chiller and boiler plant design. Position provides the opportunity to use experience in cogeneration, steam system design, and district heating and cooling to lead projects from the concept stage through construction. Ability to collaborate with and lead team members is required, along with BSAE or BSME, and professional registration. Plumbing Engineer
We are looking for an engineer to lead the plumbing and piping system design laboratory, healthcare, commercial, or higher education facilities.
Ideal candidate will be engineer with 5 or more years experience in plumbing and piping system design of laboratory, healthcare, commercial, or higher education facilities. Must have ability to determine client needs, develop innovative solutions, and mentor and lead design teams. Solid knowledge of plumbing codes and plumbing systems, including medical/lab gas systems, waste and water systems, and specialty process fluid and water systems, AutoCAD, strong communication and interpersonal skills required. PE or CPD, LEED AP desirable.

Working closely with Principals, Project Managers and Business Development Directors, the Proposal Manager will lead the development of high-quality proposals under aggressive time frames. Sustainable Design Analyst
Currently seeking a Sustainable Design Analyst for its Madison, WI office. AEI is one of the nation's leading MEP design firms. AEI provides engineering consulting in the areas of traditional MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) as well as IT, fire protection, architectural lighting and sustainable design. The bulk of its work tends to be focused on large and complex projects, both nationally and internationally. The demands of these projects present unique opportunities for innovative design and the potential to make large impacts on energy consumption and MEP design practice.
The Analyst will work with our sustainable practice team to help evaluate building and system design strategies. The emphasis will be on using building, CFD, and daylight simulation tools to help inform design, as well as document performance compared to accepted standards.
The Analyst will also work to educate clients, architects and engineers on new technologies and innovative solutions. There will be opportunity to work with design engineers and develop better understanding and knowledge of the MEP consulting field. Our sustainable practice is growing and will provide you an opportunity to grow with it.
The candidate should be an HVAC/Mechanical/Architectural/Energy Engineer and/or Energy Modeler with 1+ years of relevant experience using building simulation tools. Degree required. The candidate will have strong knowledge of TRNSYS, DOE-2, TRACE, or EnergyPlus. Experience with CFD or daylight modeling would be beneficial. Experience with HVAC systems and/or HVAC controls is ideal. The candidate should have excellent abilities with MS Excel; familiarity with VBA is a plus. Experience with other programming languages is also a plus. Candidate should be a creative thinker with effective communication and teamwork skills. The person would ideally be environmentally minded with an understanding of energy and climate change issues.
