Houston

As the fourth-largest city in the U.S., Houston is rooted in the energy, aeronautics, and healthcare industries and ranks third among metro areas with Fortune 500 company headquarters. We are proud to share our city with the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world and home to over 60 healthcare institutions, and NASA Johnson Space Center. As the energy capital of the world, Greater Houston—encompassing nine counties—has over 4,500 energy-related companies, including giants like ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, Occidental Petroleum, and Baker Hughes.

The most ethnically diverse metropolitan area in the U.S, the residents of Greater Houston speak at least 145 different languages. This shines through in Houston’s bustling food scene featuring cuisines from all corners of the globe, including Latin American, Southeast Asia, and African eateries.

Culturally, the Houston Museum District is home to 19 museums, bringing in over 8 million visitors a year. We are a major league town in every sport—with most of our team names paying homage to our history in aerospace—and host numerous sporting events throughout the year including the Houston Marathon, the PGA Tour’s Houston Open, and IRONMAN Texas. The city’s signature event is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Colloquially known as “The Rodeo,” it is the largest livestock exhibition and rodeo in the world and consists of a barbeque cook-off, trail ride, exhibitions, professional rodeo events, and performances from some of the world’s biggest recording artists.
