Historic Preservation

Historic buildings are a view into the past, showcasing the craftsmanship, culture and innovation of the era in which they were designed. Preservation of these historic structures often requires the application of contemporary conveniences: energy efficient heating and cooling, modern plumbing, upgraded communications and the addition of information technology systems.

The unique talent Affiliated Engineers brings to your project is the ability to design modern systems within the historic fabric of the structure. Our clients entrust our design teams with historically significant projects because of our knowledge and understanding of engineered systems and, more importantly, for the innovative solutions we develop for the systems in these monuments to history.

Our designs preserve the building's historic fabric by creating solutions that may not be readily obvious. We find elegant ways to fit not so elegant equipment into the structure, utilizing a fireplace for vertical airshafts versus installing more ductwork or using existing closets for vertical telecommunications shafts.

Respecting and protecting your historic building is of utmost importance to us, and we strive to design systems that support these buildings for generations to come.
