Another First for Madison- July 21, 2004
Madison, WI – Affiliated Engineers' headquarters is one of three office buildings in the state and the first in Madison to be awarded the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED™) version 2.0 certification. Located in the University Research Park, AEI's 52,000 square foot, three-story headquarters is one of just 118 buildings in the United States and Canada recognized as LEED certified. Based on well-founded scientific standards, LEED emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. A few of the sustainable features incorporated into the building include the prominent use of daylighting, the use of renewable energy and the recycling and reuse of 75-percent of the construction waste.
“The use of sustainable design methods throughout the AEI headquarters building was simply an extension of our firm's belief in the prudent use of natural and manmade resources,” explains David Odegard, Principal with the firm. “Long before it was politically correct, AEI has practiced strong energy conservation methods in its design of engineered systems. LEED certification is an exclamation point to our continuing efforts.”
