utility infrastructure

AEI plans, designs, and implements utility system solutions focused on long-term planning and life
cycle cost analysis to ensure flexibility to meet future growth and load requirements while functioning with optimum efficiency and reliability at current demand levels. Our primary areas of expertise are:

  • Utility Master Planning, phasing implementation, realizing cost and energy savings, and guiding fiscal planning.
  • Gas and solid fuel Central Heating Plants, for low and high pressure steam applications and hot water heating. Services range from obsolescence studies to cogeneration systems.
  • Chilled Water Systems, including absorption and centrifugal chillers, prime movers, and chilled water storage. Also, load projection and equipment planning, hydraulic analysis, and cooling tower analysis for "free cooling."
  • Distribution Piping, whether buried, trenched, tunneled, or above ground, planned to minimize surface interruptions, adequately sized to accommodate growth at prudent immediate cost.
  • Electrical Power Distribution, from high voltage networks (15kV) to individual building distribution (460V), including substation, distribution through feeders and switchgear, transformation and secondary distribution. Also design for standby electrical generation and peak shaving.
  • Commissioning, utilizing detailed functional performance testing protocols, system redundancy testing, and rigorous training programs.

Additional areas of expertise include Combined Heat and Power, Thermal Storage, Alternative Fuel Types and Sources, Telecommunications and Data, Network Modeling of Steam and Hydronic Systems, Compressed Gases and Medical Gases, Building Management/Control Systems, and Fire Protection.
