“Supporting top levels of care today requires insight. Accommodating the unknown technologies and methods of top care tomorrow demands nothing less than virtually client-spliced foresight.”

Albert B. Chandler Hospital
The University of Kentucky's Albert B. Chandler Hospital combines reliability, maintainability, and flexibility with evidence-based design strategies to create a healing environment that is both a Top 20-caliber healthcare center and a 100-year building. AEI's lighting design group, Pivotal, supported the hospital's goals of creating a therapeutic atmosphere addressing patients' emotional, as well as medical, needs with carefully composed lighting sequences transitioning between and defining treatment, circulation, and patient spaces. Meanwhile, MEP far-sightedness informs structural configurations and next-generation technologies to give all 512 patient rooms and 20 ORs the flexibility to accommodate future clinical trends and programs while fully supporting present treatment needs. AEI also developed mechanical and technical systems to allow rapid immediate conversion of individual patient care rooms into intensive care units, serving advanced specialty services as the Lexington region's first Level 1 trauma center.
