“The greater significance of the Climate Action Plan lies in education across all sectors of our society, creating a major social and institutional model for efficient energy use and reduction
of greenhouse gas emissions.”

Climate Action Plan (CAP) A carbon neutral university. As a charter signatory of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment, Cornell University has taken a lead in reducing energy use and fossil fuel combustion. The CAP will facilitate progress toward climate neutrality and reduce the environmental impacts of the campus—particularly CO2 emissions. AEI's role is to coordinate the participation of Cornell experts, focus groups, and campus and community stake holders to generate and technically evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of carbon reduction ideas in five major categories: energy conservation, green development, fuel mix, transportation, and energy offsets. Selection and prioritization of initiatives for the flexible plan balance qualitative and quantitative considerations, and include life cycle cost analysis, growth pattern projection, and future energy cost scenarios.
