Manufacturing Plant
“America’s greenest food manufacturer.” By studying the potato chip manufacturing process, AEI was able to capitalize on program-specific opportunities to integrate sustainable measures into Kettle Foods' new 73,000 sf process facility. The uninterrupted expanse of the processing floor was suited to evenly distributed skylighting. The collection, filtration, and recycling of process wash water established a prototype now incorporated in Kettle facilities around the world. Parapet-mounted wind turbines produce 28,000 kWh of power annually. AEI also implemented the potato chip processing unit's automation system with stand-alone control systems incorporated into the processing automation systems for a more fully integrated facility. AEI also designed a unique tagging system into the infrastructure to facilitate expansion and future equipment fits. Achieving LEED® Gold status for its new facility, Kettle earned USGBC praise as "America's greenest food manufacturer."
