Sacred heart Medical Center at Riverbend Optimized for care, economy, and expansion. Among the largest hospitals in the Pacific Northwest at 1.2 million sf, this 338-bed facility includes measures sensitive to the 38-acre green field site including air terminal units designed to eliminate need for sound attenuators, a combined medical vacuum and waste anesthetic gas evacuation system, and a chemical-free cooling water treatment systems, one of currently only seven nationwide. Underlying mountain lodge-like, evidence-based design amenities, the complex features an expansion-flexible design approach with multiple and redundant air handling units, a modular, expandable array of boilers and chillers, and provision for gas turbine cogeneration. Immediate operating costs benefit from variable air volume systems, high-efficiency boilers with stack economizers, and chillers selected for very high efficiency at low load conditions.
