“The Center‘s mission is innovative energy research, education, and deployment of technology. Providing sustainability consulting and engineering design on a team that includes national research institutions and regional utilities is consistent with that.”

AEI Project Manager
Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center Embodying efficiency, conservation, and energy innovation. Occupants of the new AERTC will develop clean and economical energy strategies through research, technical applications, and professional and public outreach. Opening in 2011, the AERTC itself will demonstrate the application of cutting edge technologies and energy sources. AEI has provided guidance for the 50,000 sf facility's layout by demonstrating the value of total energy recovery, thermal energy storage, dynamic lab ventilation, and solar energy, informing an architectural response that includes narrow floor plates, a rainwater-capturing "butterfly" roof, and a south-facing long facade with a photovoltaic shading system. The world-class facility includes such features as thermal energy storage for off-peak chiller operation, enthalpy-type heat recovery wheel, chilled beams, fume hood occupancy sensors, and CO2-based demand-controlled ventilation, all projected to help realize energy cost savings of roughly 25%.
